Nueces Canyon Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet News

Technical difficulties did not stop the Nueces Canyon Chamber of Commerce from having a successful turnout at the Annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet on Saturday, February 19, 2011.
With 110 sold out seats, the banquet was held at the First Baptist Church Dining Hall in Camp Wood.
This year the Nueces Canyon Chamber of Commerce honored Sandi Tolleson as Citizen of the Year 2010.
Also, being honored with the Pioneer Award was Freida Rogers of Montell, Reba Hicks and AC Bullard of Camp Wood.

The Nueces Canyon Gypsy Motorcycle Club was honored as Outstanding Community Organization. Attendees were treated to a lighthearted and entertaining time with guest speaker Carey Dyer from Amarillo and performer at the Rockbox Theater in Fredericksburg. Dyer sang songs from his current CD.
The meal was provided by Holy Smoke BBQ of Camp Wood and served by the First Baptist Church Youth Group; both did a wonderful job. As the evening wrapped up, the silent auction closed and winning bids were tallied. The silent auction raised approximately $500 for the Chamber of Commerce. The famed balloon dropped produced well over 100 door prizes to lucky winners.

The Chamber board showed the first tourism promotion video and announced the newly revamped website at www.mycampwood.com. Read more about our award recipients inside. Everyone did a fantastic job and even with technical difficulties, the show went on and turned out fun!

News Update on Podcast 2

n the Fall months of 2010, the Nueces Canyon Chamber of Commerce commissioned Green Dog Pictures to film a short video dubbed a Podcast to promote tourism in the Nueces Canyon. Narrated by Carey Dyer, the video takes you from the northern community of Vance to Montell at the southern region of the Nueces Canyon River region. In less than six minutes, viewers see everything from shopping and visiting the streets of Camp Wood to the Three Sisters motorcycle route, horseback riding, and more.

The Nueces Canyon makes up so much more than what can be viewed in just a few short minutes. That is why the Nueces Canyon Chamber of Commerce has commissioned Green Dog Pictures to video Podcast 2. The video will take in more areas, views and businesses than the first video. The goals of the second video is to showcase the Spring season, Nueces River, Mission San Lorenzo de la Santa Cruz, local businesses and more. Both videos will be used to promote tourism to the Nueces Canyon. The Chamber of Commerce board realized that small communities need to assist its business community and these viral videos will be used on YouTube and other sites.

Most visitors do not know Camp Wood by the region name of Nueces Canyon. This would be another reason to introduce this video to the viewers so that everyone realizes there is more to the area than one small city in the heart of a greater region called the Nueces Canyon and made up of the communities of Camp Wood, Barksdale, Vance, and Montell.

The Podcast 2 video filming will begin approximately in April 2011 and is contingent on spring time flowers and greenery. Suggestions, schedules and filming are under the direction of Nueces Canyon Director and Vice-President Becky Williams.

Chamber Misson

The mission of the Nueces Canyon Chamber of Commerce is to promote commerce in the entire Canyon area by promoting local patronage of local businesses, taking a leadership role in the community, and promoting and enhancing tourism.
The Nueces Canyon Chamber of Commerce was first formed in 1945 and incorporated in the 1980’s. The organization is housed in the old Dixie Movie Theater in downtown Camp Wood. Yes, the silver screen still hangs but has long been abandoned.
The Chamber of Commerce has been continually promoting commerce in The Canyon by improving relationships between residents of the community and local businesses, education administration, law enforcement, and community officials. We in The Canyon take great pride in the increase in tourism, new businesses opening, and the improved quality of life in recent years. We believe that the Chamber has had a significant impact in accomplishing these goals and will continue to strive for higher and greater results in these and other areas.
If you have questions about events, assistance, or other relocation issues, please feel free to call on any chamber members – we’re only a phone call or email away.
